A History of the Hawks
What We Do
Each of the sports programs holds practice three days a week during their respective season, and occasionally will plan extra activities outside the season. Our practices aim not only to teach young athletes the fundamentals of their sport but also to promote discipline and camaraderie. We promise that if your child comes to practice regularly, listens well, and applies what they are taught, they will get better at their sport. We can never guarantee that your child will get consistent playtime in games, but they will undoubtedly learn what it takes to be a reliable part of a healthy and supportive team.
Each sport team will have anywhere between 15-30 games per season, along with at least one tournament. The Marion Hawks are a member of the Independent Christian Schools of Ohio (ICSO), a conference of 18 teams from Christian schools, homeschools, and church programs. Playing these teams constitutes our regular season.
We have also begun to expand our competitive base beyond our immediate locale to include other dynamic, challenging teams and even larger homeschool tournaments. We feel that this expansion helps the kids to really know how it feels to be part of a competitive program, and to know that it is the work that they invest which enables us to play at a higher level.
Teams
As of now, we have a girls volleyball team, a girls basketball team, and a boys basketball team, all of which have both Junior High and Varsity levels.
The volleyball season typically begins in July with a three-day camp, and lasts until the conference tournament in October.
The basketball season starts in October and generally ends in March, with the conference tournament and national homeschool tournament.
